It's fair time! Marcus has worked really hard with his pig, Tank, all spring and summer. He brought Tank to the fair Weds night and weighed in at 271 lbs! Big enough to sell at market!
This morning was fitting and showing. This is Marcus's second year. Last year he showed through 4-H and this year he is showing through his Riverside FFA chapter. They started out with a meeting with the judge. Marcus listened intently and then shook her hand at the end.
He was in the first group which was a senior group mainly made up of the FFA students. Tank did so well...look at his head held high and Marcus is making eye contact with the judge. Great job!
The judge had Marcus pen his pig, that is usually a good sign.
Blake also penned his pig which is another good sign since he is pretty much Marcus's mentor in this whole thing. Pretty cool.
The judge interviewed Marcus, he likes to talk so I'm sure he did well.
So proud!
Then he came back out and walked around some more.
Tank decided to get stuck in a corner for a bit.
But Marcus got him out.
Keep your head up Tank
I was super proud of Marcus.
and Tank too.
Hayley's pig kept wanting to walk along with Tank. Marcus said it was fine.
Margaret and Marcus...Margaret kept her pig at our house since pigs should not be alone and she has always done goats in the past (she still does goats). I think the pigs found each other eventually and decided to stick together again. Kinda sweet really.
The judge gave out 2 purple ribbons and then called Marcus up. She said he was a purple until the last few minutes when Tank decided to get stuck in the corner. It was a tie between 3 kids' pigs and in the end our friend, Riley, won. Marcus got the 1st blue ribbon of his class though...that is amazing for his second time doing this!
I think he was a little disappointed though.
Margaret and Marcus…these two spent a lot of time together this summer.
Marcus also got a blue ribbon for market show, the judge said Tank looked amazing and Marcus fed him well. Overall a successful fair. Market sale is tomorrow!
