The fourth graders went on a field trip to Bear Lake. They had some outdoor teachers telling them all about the forest. First the kids learned about how owls digest food. One kid is the owl. He has to close his eyes and count to 10.
The other kids are mice and they run and hide. The owl has to find the mice and "eat" them. They learned a lot about the owls digestive system.
Next was water biology. Emma, Hayden and Tristin are looking for bugs from water they pulled out of the lake.
Tyler and Olivia are partners for this activity.
Olivia waits as Tyler gathers bugs with a net.
Emma waits for Hayden and Tristin too.
Olivia is separating the bugs out so they can take a closer look.
Tristin and Emma are putting a but on the magnifying glass.
They found a lot of cool bugs.
Emma gathers more bugs.
Good work!
Olivia gathers some too.
Fun.
We learned the lake is semi-polluted by the bugs we found...then we walked to the other side of the lake. I got a quick photo of Emma, Lexie and Olivia along the way.
This is their little group which consists of half of their class.
The next station was Survival. They read a story about being in a plane crash. They were given certain supplies and had to survive using those.
One had to have a broken arm and they had to fix it. Olivia was chosen to have the broken arm. Emma and Lexie used sticks and tape along with newspaper for a sling.
The girls had to explain to their peers all of their survival methods. They made fire with sticks, pine needles, newspaper and a magnifying glass. they made a shelter with a garbage bag and they made a huge SOS sign with a torch by it for planes to see and come to their rescue.
Next was lunch and then smores! Emma and Allyson are roasting their marshmallows.
Olivia's roasting too.
Here is all of the Chattaroy Elementary fourth graders.
Silly faces...it's hard to see though.
The last station of the day was learning about a hawk.
Olivia checks out the glove you have to wear to handle the hawk.
Pretty cool...the hawk's name was Stan.
We ended with a game of kick ball...it was a ton of fun!
