Bear Lake Field Trip

The fourth graders went on a field trip to Bear Lake.  They had some outdoor teachers telling them all about the forest.  First the kids learned about how owls digest food.  One kid is the owl.  He has to close his eyes and count to 10.

The other kids are mice and they run and hide.  The owl has to find the mice and "eat" them.  They learned a lot about the owls digestive system.

Next was water biology.  Emma, Hayden and Tristin are looking for bugs from water they pulled out of the lake.

Tyler and Olivia are partners for this activity.

Olivia waits as Tyler gathers bugs with a net.

Emma waits for Hayden and Tristin too.

Olivia is separating the bugs out so they can take a closer look.

Tristin and Emma are putting a but on the magnifying glass.

They found a lot of cool bugs.

Emma gathers more bugs.

Good work!

Olivia gathers some too.

Fun.

We learned the lake is semi-polluted by the bugs we found...then we walked to the other side of the lake.  I got a quick photo of Emma, Lexie and Olivia along the way.

This is their little group which consists of half of their class.

The next station was Survival.  They read a story about being in a plane crash.  They were given certain supplies and had to survive using those.

One had to have a broken arm and they had to fix it.  Olivia was chosen to have the broken arm.  Emma and Lexie used sticks and tape along with newspaper for a sling.

The girls had to explain to their peers all of their survival methods.  They made fire with sticks, pine needles, newspaper and a magnifying glass.  they made a shelter with a garbage bag and they made a huge SOS sign with a torch by it for planes to see and come to their rescue.

Next was lunch and then smores!  Emma and Allyson are roasting their marshmallows.

Olivia's roasting too.

Here is all of the Chattaroy Elementary fourth graders.

Silly faces...it's hard to see though.

The last station of the day was learning about a hawk.

Olivia checks out the glove you have to wear to handle the hawk.

Pretty cool...the hawk's name was Stan.

We ended with a game of kick ball...it was a ton of fun!

Fourth Grade Track Meet

Olivia competing in her last track meet as a Chattaroy Star.

Olivia ran the 400 and did the long jump.  I video taped the race so took pictures of her in line for the long jump.

Emma did the 200, the javelin throw and the relay.  I had to run across the field to get her throwing.

Nice form Emma.

Great job!

Another good throw...she got third place in this event.

Olivia running to make her first jump.

Ready for take off.

Nice jump!

2nd attempt.

Great job Olivia!

Here are the girls with Sidney.  Olivia ended up 4th in the 400. Emma ended up 3rd in the 200.

The relay team was Tyler, Gabe, Lexie and Emma...they took 2nd in the relay.

As I was taking this they announced the class and school standings.  Their class took 2nd overall!  Yay!

Shrimping

We went out on Raymond's boat to do some shrimping.  We woke up at 4 am and got to the docks before 6 am.  The kids helped load the boat.

Then we were on the water by 6:15 am...Reed was there too!

Marcus and Reed got along very well, they spent most of their time at the front of the boat...it was a good place for them; they were out of the way.

Girls on the boat...too fun!

Emma got a little sea sick so she stuck close to her Daddy for a bit.

We've got shrimp!

Raymond shows us how it's done.

How cool is that!

Olivia dug right in to help take their heads off...Marcus helped too.

Olivia loved every bit of this.

Everyone pitching in.

Olivia was the hardest worker of the kids for sure...Emma got a pass since she was so sick poor thing.

Olivia takes this seriously...love her work ethic.

I even got in there too...I have every one's cell phones in my pockets by the way...I saw this and thought I was having another baby for a minute there!

Family photo...love this!

All the boys...or men I guess :-)

We got our limits pretty quick and headed back in.  Raymond let Emma drive which I think really helped her.  She was able to focus on one point ahead of her so she felt much better.

Marc made sure she was going the right way...she did really great.

This was the highlight of Emma's day.

Marcus, Olivia and Reed rode up front...it started to rain too so they got a little wet.

Raymond went to check on them.  What a good captain.

We got back to the docks by lunch.  The kids posed in front of Raymond's boat.

Raymond showed them all the cool sea life that sticks to the docks.

Time to leave the Marina.

Then back to Raymond's to clean the shrimp...don't those look amazing!

The kids helped every step of the way.

We were all so tired by the afternoon; we took hot baths and crawled in our PJs and just relaxed the rest of the rainy day.  It was PERFECT!
